Bosch GL6 Ariston Mini-Tank
This 6 gallon point-of-use mounted water heater from Bosch designed to provide hot water instantly without the need to wait until the hot water reaches the faucets.
It is usually mounted under the sink keeping a small amount of hot water ready for use. It’s energy saving properties are similar – but a bit worse than the efficiency of the tankless water heaters since the water is not heated on-the-fly but a well insulated mini-tank keeps the hot water standby.
Another typical use-case for these mini-tank Ariston water heaters is to use them in-line with the central tankless water heater. This way the Bosch Ariston can act as a buffer and handle the short-lasting usages when instant hot water is needed (like during washing hands) and allowing the tankless water heater to kick in during heavier loads.
The installation is fairly easy – a consumer who described himself as a borderline incompetent person when it comes to plumbing – managed to install it all by himself after a short trip to the hardware store.
The time it takes to heat up a full tank of water is around 30 minutes which means this water heater under no circumstances can be used as a tankless water heater for on-the-fly heating.
The 6 gallon tank proved to be enough for a quick shower which I don’t consider to be enough, especially if you are like me – like the feel of hot water flowing down on your skin and like to enjoy the moment and make it last longer.
This Bosh Ariston indoor water heater’s 6 gallon mini-tank won’t be enough for such a long showers or baths.
The manufacturer backs the heater up with 6-year limited warranty for the heat exchanger and 1-year limited warranty for parts.
