Our next power washer review features a real high-end washer which unlike the products we reviewed this one is powered by a gas engine, not an electric one and is built by a manufacturer from the American Midwest which got well known and recognised through their generators: Generac. Generac is focusing on developing home standby generators and engines suiting the rigid environments these generators are used, they put their parts, motors and experience on building a gas engine powered power pressure washer.
We based this review on the Generac 6022 model, but most of the facts and features are also true for their other models, which mainly differ from the size of the motor and the power which the water is sprayed.
The 6022′s gas engine is capable of delivering a great amount of power, that’s the reason this pressure washer is able to spray the water with pressure up to 2,700 PSI (typical garden hose has about 40 PSI) and 2.3 gallons per minute. This amount of power is right at the edge of the professional/commertional territory, not just for cleaning the car or the sidewalk in front of the house but for real heavy duty jobs where the power is important. The engine powering the compressor pump of the Generac 6022 is a 196cc cylinder sized gas powered OHV overhead valve motor with oil-shutdown and integrated unloader valve to provide easier engine startup. It also spares the engine parts, prolong their lifespan and protect the mechanism. Unfortunately the engine is non-CARB compliant so it is not possible to purchase or to deliver to California.
The power washer comes with an ergonomic spray gun with an unique cushion grip and four Quick-Click nozzle tips which angles and spraying direction ranges from 0-degree, 25-degree clean, 40-degree wash and soap. The whole design of the Generac pressure washer is built around an axle and perfectly balanced over the wheels, this way the vibrations are ceased and the maneuverability is increased.
The customers who bought this pressure washer are generally satisfied with their purchase but some of them reported us faults about the product. One of the most interesting and also the worst thing we heard was that the motor kept stalling after few minutes of usage. The first thing we tought that the stalling is connected to the fact that this pressure washer is equipped with a safety shut-off feature which auto-activates everytime the washer is tilted and shutting the engine off but after the shutoff it fires up smooth and easy. Not this time, when the motor stalls it doesn’t fire up easily. This should not be a big problem however, we heard about products with defects or malfunctions. These are usually refunded or repaired under the warranty. This time it was different. The seller didn’t acknowledge the fault and the stalling motor so the unhappy customer had left on his own with fixing it while it is still under warranty. After some research it was found that the reason of the stalling engine is a defective gas cap that wasn’t venting. The problem should be fixed by Generac since then and they are selling units with replaced and improved gas cap. The way they dealt with their customer problems however raises the flag and this is the reason we are not able to recommend this otherwise great product for purchase.
